Costco is a better solution, as long as you buy in big bulk. Makro has more 'brands' but is muddled as to its offer. Costco for food and their small but good selection of branded items. Makro for branded, offers, detergents etc but oh hell what a mess it can be in there at times.
Do both. Job sorted there is Bookers. I had a Costco membership when I lived in London. Also, a bit like HUKD, you can end up buying stuff because it's cheap rather because you need it Last edited: Jan 24, Costco keep prices down by not using credit. Macro was really cheap 20 years ago but super markets really upped the games esp on alcohol etc If you are clued up you can save The Costco muffins and cakes are amazing.

Note that on electricals they insist they are a trade warehouse and therefore exempt from claims against them under The SoGA. Costco on the other hand are very good. Back in 97, when the Leeds store opened, electricals were much cheaper than most, it was a 3 year guarantee then, which was pretty unique at the time. We used them as a trade supplier for a while as they were cheaper than our buying group were!
The fairly limited range of clothing is well priced, mainly 'labels' but their own brand stuff is great quality. As is the food, as already said, cakes etc. We tend to buy tuna and cheese there every time we go, much cheaper than supermarkets. Tuna is in packs of 10, cheese is manageable blocks.
The credit card thing I can see as a bugbear on a big purchase but for small amounts it's no big deal. Well worth it. MIghtyG said:. Have managed to last on 1 tub of Kirkland washing up powder for approaching 2 years though! MikeP1 Active Member. We joined costco the end of last yr.
You just need to have an awareness of supermarket prices as whilst I found most things were cheaper there def are some which are either the same or more expensive. The other thing for us is just the storage, with most things being bulk buys we don't have the space to do a massive shop there.

Though it was better when the criteria was stricter than just "having an eBay business acoount". Posted May 22, Don't Costco charge you to be a 'member'? There are also some occasions where you would do better buying on the high street, proving that shoppers must do their sums carefully when shopping at the discount warehouse. When that happens, it is just false economy. Keep this in mind when buying fresh produce or condiments such as mayonnaise and ketchup.
Bear in mind that the mountains of books and toys in the centre aisles are there to tempt you to buy on impulse. A quick look on your smartphone on the shop floor and you are likely to find the same item for a fraction of the cost.
